Flixweed, Descurainia Sophia (L.) Webb. Ex Prantl

 

 

Characteristics

Family: Brassicaceae (Mustard)

Origin: Europe

Description:

  • Winter annual
  • Different from other mustards in finely pinate leaves

Stems:

  • Single stem with multiple branches
  • Grows up to two feet in height

Leaves:

  • Finely narrow and alternate
  • Covered with fine hairs

Flowers:

  • Petals are yellow or yellow-green and very tiny
  • Pods, called siliques grow between 1/2 - 1 1/4 inches in length
  • Containing the seeds

Locations:

    Flixweed is a very prolific seed producer.  It is commonly found along roadways and where soil has been disturbed.
