Monthly playground safety inspections are performed by one
of Broomfield's three certified playground inspectors (CPSI). Their
certifications are renewed every three years. All equipment is inspected
according to standards set by the American Society for Testing Materials
(ASTM) and guidelines according to the Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC). Each new piece of equipment has to comply with ASTM
and CPSC so the equipment function and design has changed significantly
to reflect the new safety standards.
Each playground's overall condition is assessed and repairs, if
necessary, are planned and carried out. All of these safety inspections
and repairs are documented.
Broomfield's park
shelters are available for rent to the public, are cleaned daily for
use by residents for birthday, anniversary, graduation parties, company
picnics, family reunions and many other events.
Each month, this crew also monitors and supplies over 60 dog-bag
pickup stations along trails and in parks. Some of these are self
service, where citizens can place their grocery and newspaper bags in
the container to be used by pet owners to help control dog waste in the
parks and along trails. Others must be restocked by staff.
