K-9 Unit

The K-9 Unit was started in September 2000. Officer/handler Nobi Gailus and his dog, Jonny, and Officer/handler Jason Collins and his dog, Nik, are assigned to the Patrol Division.

Jonny and Nik are purebred German Shephards imported from Europe. They are considered  commissioned officers of the Broomfield Police Department, and have been certified in tracking, criminal apprehension, narcotics detection, and area and building searches for suspects and/or property.

Along with patrol duties, K-9 officers and dogs participate in many community programs, including special presentations in schools and other agencies upon request.
