The Special Operations Division consists of the
Traffic Unit and FlatIron Services Unit.  Commander
Mark Bella leads the Special Operations Division.

Broomfield "On The Beat" Police Traffic Unit

The Traffic Unit has been one of the most successful and well-received police services in the City. As a dedicated effort to make citizens partners in addressing problems associated with residential speeding and traffic violations in their neighborhoods, the Unit utilizes a Specialized Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) approach in dealing with those identified chronic problem locations, focusing on traffic law enforcement with an emphasis on safety.

FlatIron Services Unit
The Flatiron Services Unit is responsible for policing the Flatiron Crossing Mall and adjoining Main Street and Marketplace developments.  Officers are stationed in the Flatiron Crossing Village area, which is a "downtown street" area that leads directly into the traditional mall. Uniformed patrol of the area is conducted not only in marked police vehicles, but also on bicycles and on foot.

Customized policing strategies have been developed to deter crime and establish acceptable behavior in the area. Officers focus on problem solving and prevention, and rely on good working relationships and partnerships with business owners and merchants to identify potential problems and develop crime prevention tactics.
