General Population
General population housing consists of a
dormitory type setting, with two open dayrooms equipped with television,
microwave, hot water, collect phones, and a sink. Inmates are
allowed to interact with other inmates and staff from 6:30 a.m. until
10:00 p.m.
Utilizing the Direct Supervision philosophy, staff is required to stay in
the housing area whenever inmates are not in their rooms. Staff interactwith the inmates and solve problems before
they threaten the safety and security of the facility. Programs like recreation,
non-denominational church services, television, and reading materials
create an environment in which the inmate can busy themselves with
positive influences, rather than focusing on the negative aspects of their
lives.
The facility utilizes inmates in a variety of areas to assist in daily
operations. Known as the Inmate Worker Program, inmates are allowed to work
in laundry services, kitchen services, and facility / vehicle cleaning. This
program serves to offset many of the traditional costs associated with
operating a detention facility, thereby resulting in substantial savings to
the City and County.
The photo to the right shows the no-contact
visitation area. All visits take place through a direct phone line
rather than in person, which eliminates the risk of contraband and assaults.
