Eco-Cycle Broomfield Days Volunteer Opportunities

  

Event Setup Staff

Date: Friday, September 19th

Time Shifts: One 2 hour shift, time 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Volunteers Needed: 1 total

Duties:  Help unload and set up event Zero Waste stations, vendor Zero Waste stations, large wheeled containers, and collapsible recycling bins. This is a physical job.  Great for those or who prefer not to directly engage the public and who enjoy physical work.

 

Zero Waste Station Staff

Date: Saturday, September 20th

Time Shifts: 6:30-9:30am, 9:30-11:30am, 11:00am-2:00pm, 2:00pm-5:00pm

Volunteers Needed: varies per shift, total 18 (based on 6 ZW stations at event)

Duties: Volunteers are key to the success of a Zero Waste event! Depending on the needs of the event planner, you can expect to:

§               Help event participants properly dispose of their waste at Zero Waste stations (i.e. educate them on how to sort compostables and commingled containers from trash)

§               Aid vendors in determining what is acceptable to distribute, and help them sort their materials during break-down

§               Monitor Zero Waste stations for contamination (see list of acceptable materials below)

§               Swap wheeled carts (the collection bins) at the Zero Waste stations

§               Explain the concept of Zero Waste to event participant

This position isn’t too physical, but does require standing and interacting with the public.

  

Recycling Ranger Staff

Date: Saturday, September 20th

Time Shifts: 11:00 – 2:00, 2:00-5:00

Volunteers Needed: 3-4 volunteers per shift, 6-8 total

Duties:­­ Recycling Rangers walk around event premises to pickup any trash, recyclables or compostables, especially immediately after the parade that runs through the event site. 

Recycling Rangers also walk throughout site to perform contamination checks at each recycling bin. Mis-sorted materials get pulled and put in proper container. Recycling Rangers will also be available to answer questions from the public as they make their rounds. 

This position will require a good deal of walking and at times bending over to pick up materials.  It will also require talking to the public on a limited basis.  No heavy lifting involved.

 

Breakdown Staff

Date: Saturday, September 20th

Time Shifts: 4:00 – 7:30pm

Volunteers Needed: 6 volunteers total

Duties: Breakdown staff will help vendors sort through their materials before they leave for the day and also help breakdown the event Zero Waste stations throughout the event and load up truck.

This position will have limited interaction with the public and requires some lifting and is a physical job.
