Frequently Asked Questions:

Which camp do I sign up for? There are three options this summer!
First is Youth Summer Camp: This Camp is for kids 6-12 years of age. Kids will go on three field trips a week and spend  the 1, 2, 4 or 8 week sessions doing arts and crafts, playing sports, and having lots of fun at Aspen Creek! This option runs from June 9 through August 1, depending on how many weeks you register for.

Second is Extreme Explorer Summer Camp: This Camp is for kids 11-14 years of age. Kids will go on four field trips a week and spend  the 1, 2, 4 or 8 week sessions doing arts and crafts, playing sports, and having lots of fun! This option runs from June 9 through August 1, depending on how many weeks you register for.  This year we are looking at having a community service aspect to the 5th day of camp.  Please contact Dawn Stipe if you have any input on this.
The Third is Explorer Extension Camp: This Camp is for kids 6-12 years of age. This camp will be held at the Broomfield Community Center after Camp Explorer has ended but school has not yet started. Kids will go on  field trips every day and spend the 1 or 2 week sessions doing arts and crafts and having lots of fun! This option runs from August 4 through August 15, depending on how many weeks you register for.

Please be aware of the "Pre-Camp Week." Boulder Valley gets out of school before Adams 12, so we added a week of camp at the beginning of the summer.  Kids will do the same activities as in regular camp, however registration will be smaller.

What do you do at Aspen Creek? Kids are broken up into groups by age and rotate to different activity stations.  One rotation includes a variety of activities for kids to do.  Favorites last summer were playing sports outside, freeze dance in the cafeteria, scooters in the gym, and art in the home economics room.

What do I need for the Parent’s Meeting? The Parent Meeting will be at the Broomfield Community Center on Wednesday, May 21 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Please bring your completed paperwork to the parents meeting and any questions you still have after reading the parent’s manual.  According to licensing, the Parent's meeting is MANDATORY.   Parents will also be given the first week’s newsletter and the first week’s detailed schedule at the meeting.

What is the staff like? All staff has been through a thorough background check in accordance to Colorado Child Care Licensing Standards.  Further, staff is trained and certified in CPR, first aid, and Universal Precautions.  Staff also has a week long Camp Explorer specific training including how to be an effective supervisor on field trips, at The Bay, and the Paul Derda Recreation center.  Staff attends weekly meeting to address any concerns and review special needs for certain campers.  The Directors are college graduates and many of our staff team are currently in college.

What do you have for parents who only need a few days a week?: Camp Explorer registration can only be broken down to per week sessions.  There is no option for daily registration.  It is encouraged for parents to look at the pricing of their specific camp and break it down per hour in order to decide if Camp Explorer is still a reasonable option.  For example:

As a Resident child in Youth Summer Camp, the average child spends 9 hours at camp per day.

If a child is enrolled in the 8 week session and attends 5 days per week cost per hour is: $2.63/hr.

8 weeks, 4 days/week: $3.28/hour

8 weeks, 3 days/week: $4.37/hour

8 weeks, 2 day/week: $6.56/hour

I have more than one child, are there any price breaks?: We determine our price based on the cost per child.  We cannot offer additional children a lower registration fee unless we raised the overall registration fee.

When do my kids need to be dropped off and picked up? Our hours of operation are 7am-6pm at Aspen Creek K-8.  All drop-off and pick-up is at Aspen Creek.  Mondays and Fridays campers may be signed in and out at anytime throughout the day.  On Tuesdays we ask the campers to be signed in by 12:30 pm in order to load the bus for The Paul Derda Recreation Center. On Thursdays we ask kids to be signed in by 10:15 to load the bus for The Bay.  On Wednesday, we typically leave between 9-10 am. We would like the kids at Aspen Creek at least 30 minutes prior to departure.  Please check the weekly calendars for exact times.  We are typically back from all trips by 4pm, on Bay days we are back by 3:15.  If you need to pick up or drop off your child at The Bay or Recreation Center please remember to see the Director on site to fill out the sign in & out sheets.
