Welcome!
Welcome to the second annual MiniMini
Haha Triathlon designed just for kids! This event is designed just like
our adult triathlon – MiniMini ‘cuz it’s extra short for kids, and Haha,
‘cuz it’s super fun!!! This is a non-competitive event designed to help
encourage kids to be active and healthy and make exercising fun,
rewarding, and a life-long skill. The event will be a non-timed event to
keep the spirit of the competition that every child is a winner, just
for participating and accomplishing their goals! Of course, having a
parent participant in the adult version should help motivate them as
well to be like one of their family members!
Please note that this is not a timed event!
To encourage participation and fun, we
are trying to keep it non-competitive! This event is about the
experience, the fun, and the motivation to get out there and do
something fun and active as a family! If you wish to time your child on
your own, go for it!

The Swim:
The swim will be held at the Broomfield Community Center in the pool.
• You may begin warming up in the pool at 7:45 a.m. until
8:20 a.m. The first heat of the swim will begin promptly at 8:30am. Heats will
begin after the end of the previous heat.
• Each participant will receive a heat number and lane number for the swim.
There will be 2 swimmers per lane. Swimmers will stay on their side of the lane
they are assigned to. If swimmers are to swim more than one length of the pool,
they will swim straight down their side of the lane, and straight back.
• We will have 2 heats in the pool area at a time – one swimming, and one on
call on the side deck. All other heats will wait in the gymnasium until called.
• There will be an in water start for each heat from the deep end of the pool.
• There will be a signal, “swimmers take your mark” and then a whistle blow, to
signal the start!
• Any stroke may be used and you may switch strokes if you so desire throughout
your swim. Lifejackets will be allowed for the younger age groups if needed. We
will also have a lifeguard on duty.
• Upon completion of the swim, participants will exit the pool to the transition
area which will be located on the east side of the Community Center, back by the
lake and the entrances to all the trails and paths.
• There will be a water station in the transition area
• Distances are:
-
6-8 year olds: 25
Yard swim.
Participants will start in the deep end of the pool in the water, swim one
length across the pool to the shallow end. Participants will climb out of
the pool, go up the steps to the sundeck, exit out the doors and gate to the
grass area where they will have their bikes set up in the grass area. From
here, they will head out on their bike, on the path, towards the Bay Aquatic
Park.
-
9-11 year olds: 50
Yard swim.
Participants will start in the deep end of the pool in the water.
Participants will swim down to the shallow end, back to the deep end, and
climb out of the water, exit out the double doors to the back grass area
where their bikes will be set up. Participants will get their bikes and head
east on the path. Participants will have the option to lay their bikes down,
or use the bike stands provided.
-
12-13 year olds: 100
Yard swim.
Participants will start in the deep end of the pool in the water.
Participants will swim 4 lengths of the pool, back to the deep end, climb
out of the water, and exit out the double doors to the back grass area where
their bikes will be set up. Participants will get their bikes and head east
on the path. Participants will have the option to lay their bikes down, or
use the bike stands provided.
TRANSITION AREA:
• The transition area will open at 7:45am and will be cleared for the race start
at 8:25am. Please be aware of the other participants! Participant bikes will be
set up in the grass area and asphalt area on the east side of the Community
Center.
• 6-8 year olds will have their bikes in the grass area on the far south east
side of the building. Participants may choose where they want to set up their
bikes and equipment.
• 9-11 year olds will have their bikes in the grass area on the north east side
of the building. Participants may choose where they want to set up their bikes
and equipment. We will have bike racks available for people who choose to use
them, but they are optional.
• 12-13 year olds will have their bikes set up on the north east side of the
building, set up on bike racks on the asphalt area. Participants may choose
where they want to set up their bikes on the racks.
• Please be considerate of the other racers – watch for them so that you do not
interfere with their race!!!
• In the transition area you may dry off, put on your shoes/socks, shorts,
t-shirt, or whatever else you feel you need to do to get ready for the bike ride
and run. No full changes will be allowed in the transition area. It is up to you
to remember where your bike is located. Please remember to have your bib number
somewhere on your body when you finish the race!
• You will not be allowed to ride your bike within the transition area. You must
walk your bike to the path. After returning from the bike ride, you must slow
down and exit off your bike at the entrance to the transition area and walk your
bike back to your bike stand before beginning the run.
• We are asking everyone to be respectful of the other participants. Parents may
assist their children that are ages 6-8 years old in the transition area. Please
make sure that unless you are a participant racing or a parent helping, please
stay out of the transition area! You are only allowed in the transition area
when you are competing, or setting up prior to the event. We ask that you wait
until all bikers have finished the race, before you remove your bikes and
equipment to leave.
The Bike:
We require that all participants wear a bike helmet
during the bike ride for your safety. Helmets must be clipped on before starting
the bike and stay on until they dismount from their bike.
Participants should stay on the path with the exception
of Highlands Ranch Drive which takes them through the community. Please make
sure that participants stay on the right side of the street.
We will have a lead biker that will make sure the kids are going in the right
direction. We would love to have a few parents who are willing, to ride back and
forth on highlands park, as well as down by the skate park and ball fields, just
to make sure all the kiddos are safe! Please let Dawn know if you are interested
or come prepared to bike!
-
6-8 year olds: (Bike
Route – 1.0 mile loop around City and County Building)
Participants will start in the transition area, on the grass. They
will walk their bike to the mounting zone, which will be the bike path by
the Bay, between the Community Center and the Bay, leading to the City and
County Buildings. Bikers will ride down the path on the left side of the
path, cross Lamar street, turn left onto the bike path that goes around the
City & County Building and Police & Courts Buildings. The path will take
them back to Lamar street where they will cross and stay on the left side of
the path, back to the transition area. The dismount zone will be the same as
the mounting zone. Parents may run or ride with their kids in this age
group. We are asking that the kids remain on the sidewalk, but parents may
run or ride in the street next to them. We have entrances coned off around
the building, but please make sure they are still watching for cars and
other bikers! Kids may pass each other in the street, just again, make sure
they are watching for cars and being careful when they pass. Again, would be
great to have some parents helping along the route to help keep the kids
safe!
-
9-13 year olds: (Bike
Route – 2.0 mile loop on bike path to Highland Park, Skate Park, Ball
Fields, back to Community Center.)
Participants will start in the transition area. They will walk their
bike to the mounting zone, which will be the path that leads to Highlands
Park (same route as the adult Mini Haha run). They will ride their bikes
down the path to Dover Court, turn right, and then turn right on Highland
Park Drive to the path that takes them to the skate park. The path will cut
across to the bridge to 1st Avenue, then back to Lamar street. They will
stay on the path until they come to the path between the Community Center
and the Bay, that will take them back to the transition area on the east
side of the building.
• 9-11 year olds will complete the loop once.
• 12-13 year olds will complete the loop twice.
THE RUN:
From the transition area you will leave your bike and take off on the bike path
in back of the Community Center that will then lead to the gravel trails. The
path will be coned off and volunteers will be there to help you out. You may run
or walk this route or a little of both. There will be one water station along
the route. The run will end in the Community Center parking lot! Again, parents
may run with their children that are 6-8 years old to help encourage them, but
also feel free to just let them do it! You did it – congratulations!
