BackStory Theatre Academy
Do you dream of being in the spotlight? Then this is the class for you! Come learn the fundamentals of acting while rehearsing a short play that will be selected based on the number of students that register for the class. Rehearsals will focus on character development, stage movement, and building a cohesive cast. There will be a final performance at the Broomfield Auditorium for family and friends. Now’s the time! Youth TaeKwon Do  This class is open to all students, white through black belt for students under 12 years old, and any level, white through black belt. It is specifically oriented for the younger crowd and is less strenuous. This class develops TaeKwon Do techniques in a manner and pace suitable for kids. Jump Bunch Jump Bunch introduces sports and fitness to your child in a hands-on setting. The program utilizes a different sport or activity each class. Jump Bunch builds coordination and interest in sports in a safe, non competitive environment. It also fosters a positive attitude so that children are eager to try new activities. Magic Workshop
Professional Magician and Entertainer Connie Elstun has created a special hands-on learning experience for 3-8 grade students. Participants will have a blast exploring the history of Magic. Exciting science, math and logical thinking concepts and theories are used to open a new world of learning. Magic and fiction comparisons help guide the students to write their own presentations. Intro to Engineering
Explore simple machines using larger LEGO Duplo pieces, which are easier to manipulate for small hands. Projects include: Seesaw, Stamper (with multiple complex levers), Car & Launcher, Cab & Trailer, Crane and Fan (using a belt drive system). We’ll also play some fun games. Concepts include learning about levers (fulcrum, load, effort), wheels and axles (transporting heavy loads with less effort), pulleys (reducing friction; adding speed and strength) and gears (what, why and how).

Jr. Engineering Using LEGO ®
Explore basic engineering concepts such while building simple machines from LEGO® Dacta kits. A different kit is used for each lesson, developing the concepts of structures and forces, levers, wheels and axles, gears and pulleys through construction of Lego® plans. Kids work in teams of 2 as they exercise their understanding with creative challenges to solve. Projects include exploration of lever classes, a rotating sign, cars, even a dinosaur and amusement park ride! Let’s build with LEGO®!

Elementary Engineering with LEGO ®
This class is appropriate for the young engineer, ages 9 and older and is a recommended first class for those students who wish to enroll in LEGO® Engineering & Robotics later in the summer. Lessons include: simple machines, structures and forces, levers, wheels and axles, gears and gear math, ratchets and drive trains, motorized systems, and steps up applications to building challenges (cars, catapults, cranes, amusement park ride & more) for points and fun !

Intro to Engineering 2
Explore more simple machines using larger LEGO Duplo pieces, which are easier to manipulate for small hands. Projects include a Merry-go-Round, Food Mixer, Winch, Turnstile, Car with Crane and a Measuring Wheel. Build your own invention during the Invention Session. Concepts include learning how gears change the speed and direction of your machine, including rounding a corner and how to use worm and spur gears together to adjust the output speed. Extra challenges may include a Wind Speed Tester, a Computer Carrier, an Entertainment Machine, a Carnival Ride, and/or a Mixing Machine.

Pico Cricket ®Tech Arts & Crafts
Jumping Jiminy Crickets! The newest in robotics and programming fun is the PicoCricket®. Design and create your own creatures, sculptures or 3-D art, then program the devices for action! Make a cat and program it to purr when someone pets it. Make a birthday cake and program it to play a song when someone blows out the candles. Make a bobblehead with multiple heads that jiggle and jump on command. Your imagination is the main ingredient.

Fun Time Gears

Jr. Robotics- Discovery
Build a bug bot, a hoop bot, a dart launcher and an intruder detector. Learn to combine motion mechanics with sensors and “on-board” programming. No computer required. Go Green! Alternative Energy Engineering
Combine engineering and alternative energy! Build cars, cranes, drawbridges, etc. from LEGO® kits and operate them using alternative energy sources. Students will start with electricity and use a multimeter to measure continuity, resistance, and voltage. Adding concrete experiments with wind, water, fuel cells and solar panels produces a high-powered and high-energy course! Leave the fossils in the ground, and go for green!!

Introduction to 3D Visualization
No amount of “huffing and puffing” will blow our buildings down! Understanding and visualizing dimension is the cornerstone of engineering, architecture, and building. Students learn principles of construction and use math skills as they experiment with scale and size, symmetry and reflections, staggering vs. stacking. In a hands-on class using LEGO® materials, we’ll build houses with removable roofs, castles with turrets, and towers of strength!

Robotics NXT- 2
Can a robot clean your room, do your homework or mow the lawn? In this course, students will build and program complex robots that move in different ways and perform complicated tasks. Use the robot as an automated sentry, to check office doors, to listen and look for intruders. Use it to go into dangerous places to check for obstacles, and pick up explosive objects. Use it to perform tasks that involve repetition and accuracy. This course will help get you ready to participate in a robotics competition team. Move over NASA! We’re on the move!!

Engineering & Robotics- Climate Connections 1
Embark on an exploration of the earth’s climate in the FIRST LEGO League’s 2008 Climate Connections Challenge! Discover the links between science, people, resources and communities. Unearth how we learn about past climates and delve into questions surrounding our current and future climatic conditions.
Kids will work in small teams and concentrate on building robots from LEGO RCX or NXT kits which are mobile and can be programmed to perform tasks. Work this week on basic missions including the “people mover”, “carbon deposit”, “storm levees” and more. Kids have referred to this as “the best summer camp they have ever taken!” Don’t miss out!

Engineering Robotics - Climate Connections 2
Embark on an exploration of the earth’s climate in the FIRST LEGO League’s 2008 Climate Connections Challenge! Discover the links between science, people, resources and communities. Visit FIRST LEGO league’s 2008 Competition Theme in creating a global game plan as they make these Climate Connections! Kids will work in small teams, and will concentrate on making robots from LEGO RCX or NXT kits which are mobile and can be programmed to perform tasks. The robots will now use sensors to detect the environment and respond to it. Begin from scratch or expand the previous week’s expertise with additional missions, ie: flood proof the house, ice core driller, delivering the polar bear, & activating the glacier research team. Small teams will ultimately compete for points on a real FIRST LEGO League competition mat!

Preschool Drawing Class
Young students are so eager to learn, and a joy to teach. Everybody loves to play dress-up! In this camp we will learn to draw ourselves in “glamour” wear. Day One we will draw accessories including: purses, crowns and jewelry. Summer Art Camp - Australian Adventures
This summer we will take a tour to explore Australia. This three day camp will provide us plenty of opportunity to try different techniques and media all in the hopes of challenging our artistic skills. Day 1 highlights the Australian Opera House and its unique shell shaped design. We will create a graphic version of this remarkable structure for a dramatic representation. Day 2 will take us Down Under as we explore cartooning Australia related jokes and scenes. Day 3 will finish off our Summer Art camp with a powerful drawing of a furry koala bear. We will walk away with several Australia themed drawings to impress everyone.

Superhero Cartoon Camp

This camp is chance to learn to draw all the different modes of transportation we use to get around, maybe even some we haven’t used!
