Night of the Stars Youth Talent Show Audition
So you think you got what it takes to wow a crowd? If so, audition for the 7th annual Night of the Stars Talent Competition for kids. There will be a dress rehearsal on March 8 from 6-8 p.m. and the local show on March 12 at 6 p.m. at The Erie Community Center (450 Powers St., Erie, CO). First place winners will move on to compete at the finale on May 1 at The Northglenn Community Center. This competition cannot accept band entries. Please go over the rules sheet and turn in your participant information sheet found at www.BroomfieldRecreation.com when registering.
Ages: Kindergarten-12th grade

Winter Break Camp

Spend Winter Break with adventurous field trips with your friends! From Casa Bonita to bowling, our campers are busy every day. What is better than having a day off from school? Having something to do! You’ll be able to hang out with all your friends all day filled with activities and field trips. Activities may include sports, games, arts and crafts, and swimming. Field trips are tentative.

Professional Magician and Entertainer Connie Elstun has created a special hands-on learning experience for upper elementary and middle school students. NEW! “Comedy Improv” Enrichment
Professional magician, comedian, author and actress Connie Elstun teaches creative young people how to be funny on stage while improvising. In this beginner class students will inspire to create hilarious skits, scenes and briefs by using fast creative thinking skills. Students will participate in fun theatre games and they will have an opportunity to work with minimal costuming and props. This comedic endeavor will delight the audience while promoting stage speaking skills. At the end of this 6 week course students will put on a hilarious show for an invited audience. Improvisational Acting!
Creating a character comes from exploring various ways to portray body movement, voices, emotions, and sense memory. Improvising these things is the key for every actor to become a living, believable character. This class will help young actors to think beyond just the words on the page. Students will work on developing fundamental acting skills through a variety of acting exercises and individual and group scene work.

Youth TaeKwon Do  This class is open to all students, white through black belt for students under 12 years old, and any level, white through black belt. It is specifically oriented for the younger crowd and is less strenuous. This class develops TaeKwon Do techniques in a manner and pace suitable for kids. Jump Bunch Jump Bunch introduces sports and fitness to your child in a hands-on setting. The program utilizes a different sport or activity each class. Jump Bunch builds coordination and interest in sports in a safe, non competitive environment. It also fosters a positive attitude so that children are eager to try new activities. Tech Activities Intro to Engineering
Explore simple machines using larger LEGO Duplo pieces, which are easier to manipulate for small hands. Projects include: Seesaw, Stamper (with multiple complex levers), Car & Launcher, Cab & Trailer, Crane and Fan (using a belt drive system). We’ll also play some fun games. Concepts include learning about levers (fulcrum, load, effort), wheels and axles (transporting heavy loads with less effort), pulleys (reducing friction; adding speed and strength) and gears (what, why and how).

Concepts include learning how gears change the speed and direction of your machine, including rounding a corner and how to use worm and spur gears together to adjust the output speed. Extra challenges may include a Wind Speed Tester, a Computer Carrier, an Entertainment Machine, a Carnival Ride, and/or a Mixing Machine.

Explore basic engineering concepts such while building simple machines from LEGO® Dacta kits. Kids work in teams of 2 as they exercise their understanding with creative challenges to solve. Projects include exploration of lever classes, a rotating sign, cars, even a dinosaur and amusement park ride!

This delightful program combines Young Rembrandts’ innovative, step-by-step drawing method with light-hearted subject matter that engages children, their sense of humor, and their vivid imaginations. This session, we start by practicing expressions and place different expressions on members of a family. Later we draw a collection of robots in different scenes and one of our sequence drawings focuses on tossing a snowball. All materials are provided.

Young Rembrandts Pastel Drawing Camp More Magnificent Masters
Our Pastel Art Camp will focus on 3 different artists. We will create an original pastel drawing re placating a famous artist’s masterpiece. We will draw a colorful goldfish bowl as Henri Matisse did in his “Goldfish” painting. On Day 2 we will recreate Vincent Van Gogh’s famous “Starry Night” complete with swirls throughout the sky. On our final day we will create powerful still life full of robust color as Paul Cezanne did often in his paintings. Each day will challenge us with the pastel media. But in the end we will be masters ourselves. Each day we will create 1 large drawing in pastel chalks. The results will be truly frameable! No experience necessary. Wear an old t-shirt or art smock. All materials are included.

Abrakadoodle Color, Color, Everywhere
Have fun with color mixing and marbleizing in the style of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We’ll dance through time with Degas’ ballerinas and let our imaginations fly with Malaysian moon kites! We’ll even get an extra dose of happiness by exploring the upbeat, colorful artwork of Alma Thomas. Each class introduces a new artist or technique and each child leaves class with a framed piece of art. A supply fee of $10 is due on the first day of class.

Art Rocks combines fun music and energetic art for a wildly creative adventure. Make musical instruments, learn about rhythm and create some music of their own! This highly specialized art program introduces children to digital imaging. Students use a digital camera to learn about photo illustrating. They may photograph their creations or use their photos in a unique photo illustration.
