Asphalt pavement is inherently porous and the older it gets, the more
susceptible it becomes to ultraviolet light, moisture penetration, and petroleum
products like gasoline or motor oil that leak or spill on the street. Sealing
the pavement will eliminate this porous condition by rejuvenating the existing
asphalt and sealing the surface. it provides a proactive approach to pavement
management, rehabilitating Broomfield's asphalt pavement infrastructure before
it is in need of overlay.
This proactive approach will add at least ten years of additional pavement life,
and at $3 a square yard less than an overlay, it is definitely cost effective.
