Records
The Records Unit is responsible for the retention of Police Department records as well as the release of information to citizens, the court system, District Attorneys’ offices, and insurance companies regarding criminal or traffic cases. A staff of four records specialists and a civilian supervisor maintain electronic and paper copies of all crime and accident reports, complete data entry of all reports, release crime information to the court or public, and forward accident information to the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles.
Reports can be requested from the Broomfield Police Department Records Unit by mail or walk-in service. At this time, we are unable to email reports. The Records Unit is dedicated to ensuring these requests are processed quickly and efficiently. See below for our fee schedule. An accident report can be obtained three ways: in person, by mail, or using our online service. To obtain a copy of a traffic accident report (within 24 hours of being scanned into the system) using our online service please use this link for BuyCrash.com. There is a charge of $5 plus a nominal fee for using this service. You will need the date of the accident, vehicle driver's last name, the Broomfield Police Department case number, and a valid credit card to access your report for a quick and easy download.
A local (Broomfield only) background check can be purchased for $10. The full name and date of birth of the party is required. A statewide background check may be purchased by going to Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s website.
The Records Unit can only accept the following types of payment:
- Cash
- Check* (personal, business, and cashier)
- Money Order
*A $20 fee will be assessed for all returned checks
