Broomfield's 50th anniversary history documentary, "Broomfield: Spirit of the American Dream," is now available to watch on Broomfield Cable Channel 8 and on demand on the website.
DVDs are now available of the video along with Mayor Pat Quinn's introduction and a free bonus video of the 1950s film, Birth of a City. The DVD is available for $20 from the Community Assistance Center in the lobby of the George Di Ciero City and County Building, 1 DesCombes Drive.
Produced by Havey Productions of Denver for the City and County of Broomfield, the documentary traces Broomfield back to a time, when Colorado was still being carved out of the wilderness, when the highlands between Denver and Boulder were dotted with farms and homesteads. In those days, the American dream was focused on the promise and freedom of the West.
At the dawn of the twentieth century settlers and ranchers in the Broomfield area were drawn to the hilly land away from the growing cities for its clean air, expansive vistas and country charm. These same qualities inspired suburban pioneers and returning war veterans who brought their families to Broomfield in the 1950s and created a unique development on this land, featuring streets curved to the rolling contours of Broomfield Heights.
Broomfield's story is interpreted in this 50th Anniversary film revealing how Colorado's first Master Planned Community -- the city by the turnpike -- embodied the new spirit of the American dream.
