Phase Three Swimming Pool Plan - Paul Derda Recreation Center 

Beginning Monday, June 29, we are pleased to announce that we will be expanding our pool services to include family swim times in the leisure pool, in addition to lap swimming, river resistance walking/running, and water aerobics classes! Reserve an appointment time on B-REx.com

  • PDRC Pool Schedule
  • All appointments for swim sessions will be through b-rex.com
  • Appointments will open on a weekly basis. We will open the next week’s appointments on Thursdays between 5-6pm.
  • You may register for up to two time slots per week, one time slot per day.  
  • Refunds will not be issued due to no shows or cancellations. 
  • Credits will be applied to accounts for appointments cancelled 24 hours in advance.
  • Lifeguards are on duty at all times during pool sessions.
  • Recreation pass memberships and Silver Sneakers passes are now accepted as a valid form of payment for pool sessions. For participants who do not have a pass, participants may pay the daily appointment user fee based upon age and residency.
  • Please come to your appointment prepared to swim and leave the pool after your appointment. Please do not plan on showering or changing after swim lessons. Staff need time to clean the pool surfaces to prepare for the next session.

Family Swim Times in the Leisure Pool

Beginning Monday, June 29, participants may book appointments to enjoy the leisure pool with their family!

  • There will be a max of 5 families (20 people) allowed in each session, by appointment only.
  • All children 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent in the pool.
  • All participants attending family swim must be in the pool swimming together. Children must be supervised at all times to maintain physical distancing guidelines with other families. 
  • All family members attending must book an appointment. If you have questions or problems registering your family, please contact aquatics@broomfield.org
  • Max of 2 sessions per week due to the limited availability of bather loads and time slots. We encourage you to utilize the waitlist. 
  • Family swim will include zero depth area, octopus slide, lazy river, and body and tube slides. The lap lane is available during family swim times, but requires a separate appointment to book the lane for use.
  • Hot tubs remain closed.
  • Each family will be given a table to set their personal items on, a single tube and a double tube to use, and a family cabana to use if needed. 

Lap Swimming Appointments

  • Lap Swimming will be available to participants 13 years of age and older and must be able to swim independently. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent in the lane.
  • All participants must book a lap lane by appointment only.
  • Lap swim times will run for an hour long session.  Please arrive early to your appointment time and be prepared to swim.
  • Participants may book a lane to use by themselves for $12/session for 13-59 years and $5 for 60+ years. You may now use your membership pass as a form of payment for lap swimming.  As an option, you may split the cost of the lane by sharing your lane with a relative or a friend, based upon your own comfort level and ability to socially distance in your lane.  Please have one person book the lane individually and pay for the lane, then email aquatics@broomfield.org if you plan on splitting the lane.  Please include in your email the day/time of your booking as well as the name of the person you will be splitting the lane with so that we may add their name to the booking for tracking purposes. 
  • We now have backstroke flags in place as well as a pace clock to use during your workouts.  A workout will be provided if you choose to use it!
  • Max of 2 people per lane unless otherwise approved.
  • Max of 2 sessions per week.  We encourage you to use the waitlist.  If there are open spots, we will allow more than 2 sessions per week.


Current Channel/Lazy River - River Resistance Walking Appointments

Participants may book appointments to use the current channel/lazy river for River Resistance Walking, Running, and exercise on your own.  The bottom of the slides will also be available to perform exercises, stretching, water aerobics movements, and therapy.  

  • The Current Channel will be available to participants 13 years of age and older.
  • All participants must book a space in the river by appointment only.
  • All sessions will be an hour in length.  Please make sure you arrive early to your appointment time, prepared to swim.
  • There will be a max of four participants in the river at a time.  Participants must exercise social distancing guidelines.  If you need to pass someone, please make sure you are communicating that with them to give them a chance to get to the side and allow you to pass them safely.
  • Cost to use the current channel will be based upon our daily user fees for residents and non-residents according to age.  Silver Sneakers and other 60+ memberships will be valid as a form of payment.
  • Max of 3 sessions per week.  We encourage you to use the waitlist.  If there are open spots, we will allow more than 3 sessions per week.


Water Aerobics Class Appointments

Participants may book appointments to join a water aerobics class taught by certified instructors!  

  • There will be a max of 10 participants in each class, by appointment only.
  • Classes will be taught in the lap pool area or the lazy river/bottom of the slide area.  Please see the pool schedule for a listing of class times and locations of classes.
  • Classes will be available to participants 13 years of age and older.
  • Class participants must maintain social distancing requirements during classes, keeping at least 6 feet apart from each other.    
  • All sessions will be an hour in length.  Please make sure you arrive early to your appointment time, prepared to swim.
  • Max of 2 sessions per week.  We encourage you to use the waitlist.  If there are open spots, we will allow more than 2 sessions per week.
  • Cost to take a water aerobics class will be based upon our daily user fees for residents and non-residents according to age.  Silver Sneakers and other 60+ memberships will be valid as a form of payment.

Lifeguard Training Classes!

We are offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Training classes! This class now includes deep water training and rescue skills as well as CPR/AED/First Aid. Due to the challenges presented during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have restructured the class into blocks of time to give you flexibility in your schedule as well as work with the limited pool availability and staff schedules. 

We will offer several different dates for each block to choose from throughout the summer. Classes will be posted as they become available on b-rex.com. You will need to attend all 4 blocks of the class in order and complete the online portion of the class to gain your certification. Please see b-rex.com for more information.

Pool and Facility Protocols

  • Participants must be 13 & over and be able to swim independently. Children 12 & under must be directly supervised in the pool by an adult.
  • Pool temperature will be set at 84 degrees designed with lap swimming and exercise in mind.
  • Stay Home if you are showing symptoms of being sick:  Fever, shortness of breath, cough.  You should never swim if you are not feeling at your 100%.
  • Pool will only be used by making an advanced reservation on-line.  All appointments for pool time and all payments must be made online.  No walk ups, no cash transactions.
  • Reservations will be set up in blocks of 60 minutes for each session, followed by 30 minutes to clear the pool and facility to provide a deep clean prior to the next session.  Participants will sign up to use the pool in their designated area for a one hour block of time.  After the hour, participants will be asked to leave.  All surfaces of the pool will be cleaned during the 30 minute break to prepare for the next session of participants.  
  • Swimmers must take care of themselves and other swimmers and staff!  All participants MUST wear a mask into the facility/pool area and then put them back on upon exiting the pool and facility.  Swimmers SHOULD NOT wear a mask in the pool.
  • Patrons will line up outside the pool/facility along the sidewalk that leads to the southeast side of the building (loading dock area).  Cones will be placed apart to indicate 6 feet of physical distancing when lining up for check in.  
  • Lifeguard on duty will check in participants by name as they enter the facility.  Each participant will be asked to come prepared to swim with their swimsuit on.  
  • Participants will be asked if they have experienced any symptoms of being sick prior to entering the facility as well as given directions about pool protocols in place.   
  • Each participant will be assigned one chair or table upon arrival to use and store their towel, mask, and any other gear.  Upon exiting the pool, all furniture and surfaces will be properly sanitized before the next use.
  • Follow all directional signage - enter/exit the pool at the designated area
  • Participants will enter the pool at their designated area.  Participants must stay in their designated area to maintain physical distancing.
  • Participants must bring their own equipment and gear to use.  Equipment will not be provided by the facility.
  • Physical Distancing guidelines maintaining a minimum six-foot distancing from non-family members will be enforced via separation of lap lanes, walls, numbers of participants allowed into each specified area.  Lifeguards will help enforce guidelines in place
  • Pool furniture including tables, benches and lockers will not be available for use.
  • Locker rooms will not be available for use.  However, there will be 6 all gender cabanas available for use.  Each cabana has a shower, sink, and toilet.  We encourage participants to shower before entering the pool.  Please wash your hands before and after you use the cabana.  Each cabana will be closed for disinfecting after each use.  We have cards designated for each cabana.  Please take one and then give it to the lifeguard on duty after use so that we may lock it and clean it after each use.
  • Pool chemicals and chlorine will be maintained per CDC and health department regulations and guidelines to maintain proper sanitation, disinfection, and clarity levels.
  • Hot tubs will not be available for use.
  • Drinking fountains will not be available for use.  Please bring your own water bottle.
  • Participants must follow all directions and protocols or they will be asked to leave the facility.  Money will not be refunded for failure to follow directions and protocols.
