Kids' Fishing Derby Annual Event
Every year, the Broomfield Open Space Foundation, in cooperation with the City and County of Broomfield and Colorado Parks & Wildlife, sponsors a free Kids' Fishing Derby for ages 6 to 12 years. The 2017 event was at Metzger Farm Open Space on May 6.
A brief introductory fishing clinic, poles, and bait are provided, and then kids will enjoy a one-hour fishing session (see available times below). Please park at the Metzger Farm Trailhead (access from Lowell Boulevard) and walk to the pond.

Kids' Fishing Derby Event 2016
Over 100 young fishers and their parents/guardians came out on a very chilly, cloudy May 7 to try their luck! Several of the kids caught sizable fish. Everyone had a great time, regardless of the chilly weather.
The event was held at Metzger Farm Open Space this year. Colorado Fish and Wildlife stocked the pond with fish to improve everyone's odds of landing the big one.
The 2015 Event
The 2015 event on May 2 at Tom Frost Reservoir was enjoyed by 100+ children and their chaperones. The weather was perfect, and the fish were jumping. Children visited educational stations on fish biology, knot tying, fishing ethics, and casting. After these short learning sessions, they received a free fishing pole and bait. Many children caught fish, which added to the excitement of the morning.
Approximately 13 local residents from BOSF and the Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee volunteered to help out! At the end of the fishing
