Story Times

Kids and families can enjoy stories, music and movement while building early literacy and social skills. No registration required. Stop at the Children's Information Desk to pick up a free ticket before each program. 
 
Baby Story Time Ages: Newborn to 24 months (with caregiver) 
Thursdays from 9:15 a.m. to 9:35 a.m. and 10 to 10:20 a.m.
An interactive story time focusing on the three "R's" Rhythm, Rhyme and Repetition. Baby sign language and research on social emotional growth and brain development are included in a lively and fun atmosphere. 
*Last day of regular Baby Story Time will be May 18.
Toddler Story Time Ages: 21 months to 35 months (with caregiver) 
Mondays 10 - 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. and Wednesdays 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. or 10 - 10:30 a.m. 
This 25-30 minute program includes age-appropriate stories, songs, rhymes and fingerplays that help toddlers develop skills in oral language, listening and motor development while fostering a love of reading and books.
*Toddler Story Time wraps up May 17 and will resume in September.
Preschool Story Time Ages: 3 - 5 years. 
Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.  and Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. 
Preschoolers will develop early literacy skills, self-confidence, and curiosity through fun stories and activities. We ask children to attend without their caregivers to help develop a sense of independence that will be needed as they start school.
*Last Preschool Story Time of the spring will be on May 18. Summer Story Times will begin on June 13. 
Story Time at Paul Derda Rec Center
Third Friday of each month at 11:40 a.m.
Stick around for Story Time for families with children of all ages. Drop in (registration not necessary). Downstairs by the fireplace. *Will resume in September. *Facility fees may apply
Family Early Literacy Time - All ages welcome but the focus will be newborns - Pre-K 
Saturday, May 27 11-11:45 a.m.
This story time includes books, fingerplays and songs focusing on an early literacy topic, followed by a craft and time to practice fun play activities families can do at home to build early literacy skills.
Bilingual Story Time
Monday, May 22, 6:30 - 7 p.m.
La hora de cuentos bilingues en espanol/ingles en la salon de Story Time.
Spanish and English Bilingual Story Time in the Story Room. No registration required. Everyone is welcome!

Ongoing Programs

Parent Toddler Workshop (Toddlers 18-35 months with an adult) Registration required 
Fridays, 10 - 11:15 a.m. April 7 - May 5 
Have fun with your toddler while you play with toys, read and create a craft. Ask community resource professionals questions about early literacy, speech & hearing, physical fitness, nutrition and behavior. The Parent Toddler Workshop is a 5-week program for toddlers 18 - 35 months and their parents or caregivers. Registration is limited to one time per child.    
Junior Book Club (Grades 4-5) Second Wednesdays from 4-5 p.m.
The Junior Book Club is a pre-registered program for kids in grades 4 to 5. Join us every month for a book discussion, snacks and fun! Register and check out a copy of the book in advance at the Children's Room desk. This program is limited to 12 participants per month. For more information, please call 720-887-2315.

First Friday Make and Take (Two years old and up) 2:30 - 4:15 p.m.
A special craft time for children ages 2 and up and their caregivers. No registration is required and all supplies are provided. Come to the Children's Story Room and start crafting any time between 2:30 and 4:15 on each designated Friday and make two fun crafts to take home! This event is usually on the first Friday of each month, unless otherwise noted on the monthly calendar of events. Supplies are limited. And if you can't make the actual program, you can find the crafts on our Pinterest page.

Cuddletime Concerts (Newborn to 24 months with caregiver)
June 10 - Love Songs & Lullabies with Jamie Grigsby 9:30 - 10 a.m., at the grand piano in the Auditorium 
Special music programs recommended for babies and toddlers, ages newborn to 24 months and an accompanying adult.

Afternoon Reading Fun (K-grade 5) Thursdays, 4 - 5 p.m. (registration begins at 3:45) 
Sign-in at the Children’s Information Desk on program days. Sassy and Brody can't wait to hear you read! Students in kindergarten to fifth grade build confidence and fluency in their reading by reading aloud to trained therapy dogs. Bring your own book or choose a library book and our dog friends will listen without correcting or judging. This creates a relaxing reading environment where readers can build their confidence and fluency.
