Your Health and Oil and Gas
Learn more about the broader Oil and Gas Program here.
The oil and gas health program has two goals:
- To provide objective health information to residents
- To evaluate the population based health effects of living near oil and gas wells
The team has expertise in environmental epidemiology, air quality measurement, exposure assessment, toxicology, and health communication.
Oil and Gas Health Survey
Broomfield Public Health and Environment (BPHE) and Colorado School of Public Health at University of Colorado Denver Anschutz campus (CSPH) have been working together since 2021 to better understand the health implications of living in proximity to oil and gas development. BPHE and CSPH conducted a research study that involved a health survey that was sent out to randomly selected households in Broomfield. This survey asked questions about recent health symptoms. Survey responses were used to help inform the City and County of Broomfield, health experts, policy makers, and the broader scientific community about the potential health implications of living near oil and gas in our community. Learn more about the survey here.
February 2023 Update: We are pleased to announce that the Oil and Gas Health Study has undergone rigorous peer-review and has been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. Read the publication.
