1st and Sheridan Intersection Improvements

1st and Sheridan 12-2021

NEWS AND UPDATES...

The entrance work on the east side of Sheridan Boulevard (Broomfield Plaza) is complete and the entrance is open.

The improvements on the west side of Sheridan (Broomfield Town Center) are ongoing.  The Contractor has completed the installation of the new turn lane. There is some additional striping and concrete work to be completed. The new traffic signal poles are going to be delivered in February 2022.  In early February, the Contractor will remobilize to the site for 1-2 weeks of work.  The remaining work will have minimal impacts on traffic.

Background Information

The purpose of the project is to alleviate traffic congestion, improve vehicle capacity, and create better traffic flow at the intersection.  The eastbound left turn volume exceeds the capacity of the single left turn lane during the noon and evening peak hours on weekdays and on Saturdays.  Significant backups can occur on East 1st Avenue at these times. Currently, there is a single eastbound left turn lane from East 1st Avenue, and a shared through/right-turn lane.  An additional left  turn lane will be added and the existing turn lane will be lengthened to increase the capacity for that movement and relieve congestion at the intersection.  The project will also improve the pedestrian crossings and handicap ramps on both the west and east side of the intersection.

HERE are the Construction Plans.
