UPDATE: 6:30 p.m.
The break has been repaired and services are returned to normal.
A sewer main line on Industrial Lane has been hit as part of utility boring. Upon notification, Broomfield Public Works immediately shut down the pumps to prevent additional sewage from being released into the storm drainage systems, but several thousand gallons of sewage was released into the storm drainage systems. This spill does not affect Broomfield’s drinking water. The storm drainage system in which the sewage was discharged outlets at the pond at Midway Park, and may reach the pond near the Broomfield Library.
Waterway and pond samples are currently being collected and will be analyzed for E. Coli. Residents and their pets are asked to stay out of all waterways and not touch the ponds for seven to ten days. At this time, the public health risk is believed to be low. Signage will be posted in English and Spanish in affected areas. More information will be provided as it is available.
