Know Before You Go - Changes for the 2025 Event
For this year’s event, the City and County of Broomfield is implementing several updates to enhance everyone's ability to relax and have fun. These thoughtful adjustments are designed to create an environment where attendees can fully participate in the festivities.
Layout
The biggest change to this year’s event will be that the Main Pavilion, Championship Field, and the Red Pod on the east side of the park will be fenced in to make this a more family-friendly environment. Entry and exit points will allow event staff to check bags for prohibited items. Within the fenced area of the park will be the Main Stage with multiple bands performing, aerial performers, inflatables, bubble tower and other activities for kids, and multiple food vendors and a beer garden.
For those who prefer to avoid the entry checkpoints in the Red Pod, the Blue Pod, on the west side of the park, will be open and include a fenced-in beer garden and food vendors as well. The north side of the park, the Yellow Pod, will remain open for drop-in usage.
Notifications
Real-time notifications sent during the event will also be different. Residents can subscribe to receive push notifications for weather and fireworks show updates, so messages will come directly to you, instead of trying to find updates on social media. Subscribe now using the information in the Real-Time Notifications section on this page.
Parking and Road Closures
No parking will be allowed on Broomfield County Commons Drive for July 4, which runs between the Paul Derda Recreation Center and Sheridan, and will be shut down at 5 p.m., to allow for easy shuttle bus access.
For those parking on site at the event, the ADA accessible parking lot is shifting from the west parking lot to the parking lot east of the Main Pavilion at the Commons. This shift provides the same amount of accessible parking and puts those with accessibility needs closer to the main event.
For the safety of all attendees, all road entrances to Broomfield County Commons Park will close to incoming traffic at 8 p.m., unless otherwise posted or when the parking lot is full, until the fireworks are finished. View the Road Closures Information and Map in PDF format.

The following items are NOT allowed in the park:
- Glass bottles or containers
- Open fires
- Charcoal Grills are prohibited in the park
- Propane grills are allowed - on natural grass areas only

Carpooling not only reduces traffic congestion in the parking areas, it is also environmentally friendly, reduces stress and increases your time to have fun!
Fireworks Lighting System and Weather Notifications
Residents are reminded that weather conditions always play a role in this annual event. Should the fireworks display be delayed or stopped due to safety concerns, announcements will be made over the public address system, real-time notifications will be sent out to subscribers (see the Real-Time Notifications section on this page), and stop lights in the field will reflect the status of the fireworks display. There is no rain date for fireworks.
A lighting system, located as close to the fireworks firing area as possible, will inform viewers of the status of the fireworks show. Weather permitting, green means the show is a “go,” yellow indicates it is in a holding pattern, and red indicates that, due to weather concerns, the fireworks show is cancelled.
The fireworks display launches from the Broomfield Commons Open Space, south of Broomfield County Commons Park.
Lost and Found
All items found during the event will be turned into the concessions garage. After the event, any remaining items will be moved to the Paul Derda Recreation Center (13201 Lowell Blvd, Broomfield, CO).
Safety
Most fireworks are illegal and none are permitted at the Great American Picnic event nor in Broomfield City and County limits. Bringing in illicit items and/or behavior detrimental to attendees will not be tolerated at the event. Illicit items include fireworks, glass containers, open fires, outside alcohol and charcoal grills. Gas grills are also not allowed on the artificial fields/turf. Broomfield PD will be on hand to ensure everyone’s safety.
Most fireworks are prohibited in the City and County of Broomfield. Any device that explodes or leaves the ground on its own power is ILLEGAL. Violators that use, possess, or sell prohibited fireworks could face a minimum fine of $100 up to $1,000. Read the full ordinance.
For everyone's safety, the Broomfield Police Department and the North Metro Fire Rescue District recommend residents leave fireworks to the professionals. Learn more on the Fireworks Information web page.
