Waterline Flushing Program

Water Utilities personnel flush the water distribution system annually, typically in the spring. This procedure is necessary to help maintain the water quality in the distribution system and is performed by systematically opening fire hydrants throughout the city.

The flushing program typically begins the first week of April. Crews will work through the city flushing a different section each week for five weeks. Business, commercial, industrial, and other high-traffic areas are flushed at night to minimize the inconvenience to citizens and motorists. Residential and lower-traffic areas are flushed during regular working hours.

When your area is being flushed you may notice temporary discolored water from taps and faucets; the water is safe to drink and any discoloration should subside within 24 hours. There may also be increased water on roadways near opened hydrants.

Questions regarding water line flushing can be directed to Water Utilities Field Services at 303-438-6334 or by email at waterutilities@broomfield.org.
