Residential Waste Services Program Benefits and Services

What is the Residential Waste Services program?

The City and County of Broomfield has contracted with Waste Connections of Colorado for curbside collection of trash and recycling for the following residents:

  • Residents in single-family homes or small multi-unit buildings (7 or fewer units) that are not part of an HOA with a waste and recycling contract.
  • Residents who don’t live in a HOA
  • Residents who live in HOAs without a contracted waste and recycling hauler

Trash cart rates are based on the size of the trash cart you choose to best meet your household’s needs. The smaller the trash cart the lower the cost; so the more you recycle and the less you waste, the more you save. With all sizes of trash cart, a large recycling cart is included. In this way, the program incentivizes residents to recycle as much as possible.

Benefits of the Residential Waste Services Program

Broomfield’s Residential Waste Services program is the first major initiative being implemented from the Broomfield Zero Waste Plan. This new service, rolled out in March 2025, will put the community on a path toward a zero waste future. The program will provide easy access to recycling for residents, keeping valuable natural resources out of landfills, protecting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Benefits to Broomfield Residents

  • Cost savings for recycling more and throwing out less trash
  • Reliable customer service with accountability
  • Fewer trash trucks on the road
  • Transparent, consistent pricing
  • Residents can choose from multiple size options for trash carts
  • Recycling services are included at no additional cost

Currently, only 22% of discarded material in Broomfield is recycled, reused or composted. The rest goes to the landfill. The City and County of Broomfield has set targets to increase waste diversion to 50% by 2025 and 100% zero waste by 2035. The new Residential Waste Services will help advance the community toward reaching those ambitious goals.

What services are part of the Residential Waste Services program?

  • Weekly trash collection
  • Every-other-week recycling collection at no additional cost
  • Residents will receive either a 35-gallon, 65-gallon or a 95-gallon trash cart
