Court Security

The Court Security Unit is staffed by sworn Broomfield police officers  and non sworn court security officers who provide overall safety and security for everyone at the Broomfield Combined Courts. The Court Security Unit maintains the front lobby entrance to the Broomfield police department and can assist with counter reports, Online Reports, and oversees the Medication Disposal kiosk.

Courthouse Screening

All persons, purses, backpacks and packages entering the Broomfield Combined Courts are screened for weapons by means of X-Ray and metal detection equipment.  Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

  • Weapons of any kind (firearms, knives, stun guns, pepper or mace spray canisters)
  • Glass or metal cups/bottles (only see through plastic allowed)
  • Explosive for flammable devices (including vape pens)
  • Scissors, needles, tools, handcuffs and/or handcuff keys
  • Alcohol, chemicals, illegal drugs
  • Any item construed to be a weapon at the discretion of the screening officers
  • Animals, other than support animals
  • Items that could be used to disrupt court proceedings

Storage lockers are provided for temporary storage of smaller prohibited items.  Items found to be illegal are subject to seizure.

Fingerprinting/Vin Verifications

The Court Security Unit oversees fingerprinting services to include CCW permits. This service is provided by Broomfield volunteers by appointment.
