Police Department Volunteer and Internship Positions

The Broomfield Police Department utilizes volunteers and interns in a variety of departments and units including Victim Services, Investigations, Detention and more.

Volunteer Opportunities

Detention Center

Facilitate programs such as church services and Bible studies. Tutor inmates interested in attaining their GED. Lead classes such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, yoga, and more. Yoga classes are led by certified instructors.

Fingerprinting

Assist the Broomfield Police Department with providing fingerprinting services to Broomfield residents for the purpose of employment or volunteering.

Office and/or Patrol Support

Assist with a variety of office administrative tasks Monday-Friday during regular business hours. Tasks may include copying, filing, scanning, and general clerical duties.

Victim Advocates

Provide on-scene crisis intervention (or by phone) to victims of crime and survivors of traumatic events. Provide support and inform victims of case status. Inform victims whose crimes are afforded rights under the Colorado Crime Victims Rights Act. Connect victims with appropriate resources and referrals.

Internship Opportunities

Crime Scene Unit: The application window has closed. Please check back in Summer of 2026.

The objective of the internship program with the Broomfield Police Department Crime Scene Unit (CSU) is to enhance basic skills, provide an overview of the techniques used and give hands-on experiences to the student. The 20-hour program is intended as a job-shadow only. Students will not be assigned casework or have independent responsibilities.

The intern must have a tie to the Broomfield community, i.e., live or have immediate family living in Broomfield, or be enrolled in school in or near Broomfield. The intern will be required to pass an integrity interview and background check. The intern is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner that will reflect well upon the individual as well as the CSU.

The objective of the internship program in the Detective Unit is to provide the student with a hands-on opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations of a Detective in an Investigation Division.  This internship program can be customized to the student's interests and/or scholastic requirements.  Interns can concentrate on a particular unit or be exposed to all depending on interest and/or requirements. The internship is generally scheduled during the weekday, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Investigations Division's Detective Units of the Broomfield Police Department are staffed by seasoned law enforcement officers assigned as detectives who specialize in criminal investigations.  The Broomfield Police Department Investigations Division is composed of three detective units; Persons Crimes, Property Crimes, and Economic Crimes.

The program is based on the availability of the Detectives Unit. The intern must have a tie to the Broomfield community, i.e., live or have immediate family living in Broomfield, or be enrolled in school in or near Broomfield.
