BPD Teen Academy Application

  1. Broomfield Police Department Teen Academy Participant Application

    “BPD – Inside” Teen Academy - A trilogy of time, training, and tactics. An opportunity for understanding and interacting with members of the Police Department to enhance partnerships within the community.

  2. "BPD-Inside" Teen Academy is designed to be a fun interactive way for teens to learn about the various dynamic functions of the Broomfield Police Department. Experience what it's like to be a police officer and explore the vast array of opportunities available in law enforcement, such as SWAT, CSI, K-9, SRO, Investigations, or Detention.
  3. Date: June 1-5, 2026
  4. Time: 8 am - 5 pm
  5. Location: Broomfield Police Department, 7 DesCombes Drive
    Off-site locations include the Broomfield Detention Center 11600 Ridge Parkway, and the North Metro Fire Rescue District Training Center, 1006 County Road 11, Erie.
  6. To be considered for this program, you must:
    Be between 16-18 years of age (under 18 requires parent/guardian permission); have a valid Colorado driver's license; have a GPA of 2.0 or higher; and have your own transportation to and from all training locations.
  7. All participants in the Teen Academy will be expected to:
    Handle a simulated firearm in different training scenarios, including building searches, traffic stops, etc.; tour a detention facility where inmates are housed (no contact with inmates); use a traffic speed detection laser and estimate vehicle speeds; participate in simulation experience measuring judgment and use-of-force training (shoot/don't shoot scenarios using an electronic training simulator and training weapons; be a passenger in a training vehicle and experience a pursuit intervention maneuver; drive a patrol car on a closed driving course at slow speeds; observe a SWAT team demonstration where diversionary smoke and flash bangs are deployed; observe a K-9 demonstration; investigate a mock crime scene.

  13. Information lacking in moral turpitude may disqualify the applicant.
